Scotland has long enjoyed
a rich heritage in the creative and cultural industries. Ten years of
steady sector growth has led to a renewed government focus, seen in
the new administration’s economic strategy, which priorities creative
industries’ support.
By 2014, industry growth of 3,000 jobs is expected, more than half of
which will require higher skills. Subject to Parliamentary process,
Creative Scotland will come into existence later this year, and the
Scottish government has also published ‘Skills for Scotland’,
which reinforces the role of SSCs working in partnership with stakeholders
in tackling Scotland’s skills challenges.
Local authorities also have a crucial role to play in developing Scotland’s
creative economy by bringing together stakeholders in ‘creative
hubs’, providing advice, building partnerships and outlining clear
plans for growth.
This new conference, developed in partnership with Creative & Cultural
Skills, is an opportunity to share national policy and local good practice
designed to boost Scotland’s creative economy, and reinforce its
position as a world-leader in the creative and cultural sectors.
