Over the next year some particularly
hard policies and political discussions will be heard around the future
of social care design and provision. The complex inter-relationships
between systems, financing, family responsibilities and the duties of
central and local government will be at the centre of these discussions.
It is clear that the current
system is neither fare, consistent or fit for purpose. A postcode
lottery exists with both the quality and quantity of care varying dramatically
in different parts of the country.
With any real outcome from
the green paper not expected until after an election, those designing
and delivering services for older people will, in the mean time, need
to continue to drive real innovation and improvements across health
and social care, with more joined up working and a clear drive towards
delivering services that are personalised and needs appropriate.
This
year's annual conference will address the six key elements that people
can expect from a national social care service: access to prevention
services; a joined up service; appropriate information and advice; personalised
care and support and fair funding.
The conference has so far
attracted a broad audience, with representation from all sectors.
