Developing the Childcare Workforce 2010
The Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 includes four clauses giving Sure Start Children’s Centres a statutory legal basis, introduces a duty for Ofsted to inspect centres, and a duty for local authorities to consult with residents before making significant changes to services delivered through them.
The key issue for commissioners is now integrated working between different agencies, the impact of which upon the learning and development of children and parents a recent report from Ofsted rated as good or outstanding in over half of the centres visited, and at least satisfactory in all but one of the remainder.
The government expects organisations within children’s trusts to demonstrate that they are working together at the operational level, and directors of children’s services to gain more experience of operations. This conference will look at examples of co-operative best practice on the ground, helping local authorities and their statutory partners to meet these obligations.
