4th Annual
Healthy Eating in Schools 08
Increasing
Take-up of Quality Food
Wednesday 29th October 2008
Inmarsat Conference Centre, London EC1

“Over
three million children are eating school dinners – a rise of 50,000
on last year. We've turned a corner in primary schools and the steep
fall last year in secondary schools has been halted…But we know there
is still a huge job ahead ”
Rt Hon Ed Balls MP
The
new minimum nutritional standards for school food come into force for
primary schools this September and for secondary schools in September
2009.
The
government has announced £650m ring-fenced funding for school
lunches by 2011 to subsidise healthy ingredients and invest in training
and in improving kitchens.
The
recent School Food Trust/ LACA survey has showed the first rise in the
number of primary school children eating school meals since healthier
meals were introduced.
In
the face of challenges of rising food costs, this unique conference,
now in its fourth year, will provide practical insights into achieving
the new standards and increasing take-up of school meals by effectively
engaging parents, reaching BME children and families and developing
a whole school approach to provision and learning.
