Re-thinking criminal justice:
reducing crime and re-offending
The release of the CBI report Getting back on the straight and narrow, represents the first critique the CBI has made of the criminal justice system(Download the report for free). This forum will tackle many of the issuesd raised by the report.
Keynote speakers include:
Rt. Hon David Hanson MP
Minister of State (Criminal Law and Prisons), Ministry of Justice
Nick Herbert MP
Shadow Justice Secretary
Ian Poree
Director of Operational Policy, HM Prison Service
Julie Taylor
Director of Commissioning and Partnership, NOMS
Crime costs the UK £60bn a year and re-offending rates currently stand at more than 60%; despite substantial extra investment and a program of reform, we still await the goal of an ‘end-to-end’ approach to reducing offending. With a prison system at capacity, reducing re-offending and measures to reduce prison overcrowding beyond crisis management must be priorities for criminal justice reform.
This forum will provide an opportunity to discuss - and challenge – the underlying systems and assumptions which underpin criminal justice:
- What solutions are available to help put new thinking on joined-up offender management into practice, in a transparent and well-managed service from prison gate to the workplace?
- What will drive down re-offending rates, and how can the skills of all providers in the market be harnessed to do that?
Delegates will also examine how we need to rethink how best to use commissioning and performance management in the interests of an integrated criminal justice system that reassures and protects the public.
